Global Location Numbers (GLNs)

Goals:

• Be able to change your email auto-text for GLN number sales (for the automatic emails that your customers receive).
• Explain how you can optionally register a GLN number in the International Barcodes Database, in addition to its automatic registration in the International Barcodes Network Registry (ibnreg.org).

GLN Numbers Auto Text Example:

If you sell GLN Numbers (Global Location Numbers) on your website, please consider updating the text in the automatic emails that your customers receive.

Mirko from barcodedeutschland.de has great auto-text for their GLN Number product. We’ve translated their auto-text from German to English, changed it a bit, and added it to the sites that we run – please consider doing the same on your own site.

Changing your Email auto-text for this product:

You can change your email auto-text for this product by logging into your website, editing the GLN Number product, and then changing the text in the ’email text snippet’ section.

Using your GLN number:

You can use your GLN number immediately.

Give the GLN number to your retailer/distributor and they will link it to your company’s physical address within their own system.

Note:

• Only some retailers/distributors will ask you for your GLN number (others don’t require you to have one).
• You don’t need to register your GLN but you can if you wish.

Optionally registering your GLN number:

You have been automatically registered as the owner of your GLN number in the International Barcodes Network Registry (ibnreg.org).

You can optionally also register your GLN number in the International Barcodes Database as follows:

1. Go to https://barcodesdatabase.org/barcode-registration/
2. Enter your GLN number in the second box
3. Click “search for barcode”.
4. You will be asked to verify your email address first – once you’ve done that, you’ll be able to register your GLN on the International Barcodes Database.

Guidelines on what information to enter into each section:

• Barcode number: Enter your GLN number
• Product name: Write “GLN – Global Location Number”
• Brand / Manufacturer: Enter your company name
• Contact E-Mail Address: Enter your company email address
• Product Description: You can either enter a short description of your company or else leave this section blank.
• Manufacturer contact: Enter your company’s physical address, website, or phone number.
